Shockwave Therapy

Shockwave Therapy at South End Physiotherapy.Shockwave is a non-invasive treatment technique that involves the production of acoustic shockwaves to treat chronic, painful conditions of the musculoskeletal system. It stimulates the healing process and has a direct effect on nerves thereby diminishing pain. Its basic science is analogous to lithotripsy which uses shockwave to break up kidney stones without surgery. Shockwave Therapy can be used to treat a wide variety of conditions in the musculoskeletal system including tendinitis at the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee and ankle or conditions such as plantar fasciitis, muscle trigger points, calcific tendinitis and can be used to help promote bone healing in the case of stress fractures and delayed union healing.

Shockwave Therapy works to jump start the healing process in chronic non-healing injuries and moves them back into the acute phase of healing.

Usually 3-4 treatments are necessary one week apart. Please see our attached brochure for more information on Shockwave or contact us if you have questions.
