Acupuncture / Dry Needling
Acupuncture is used for treatment of pathological conditions including many musculoskeletal dysfunctions. Acupuncture achieves pain relief through the release of endorphins and can have an anti-inflammatory effect through the release of serum cortisol. We have used acupuncture successfully with many conditions such as Achilles tendinitis, osteoarthritis of the knees, neck and back pain, shoulder/rotator cuff problems, plantar fasciitis, Tennis elbow and other painful pathology.
Studies have shown that up to 10% of the adult population will experience myofascial pain – a common syndrome that can account for acute and chronic pain complaints. Dry needling has been found effective for the assessment and treatment of myofascial trigger points. It is a pain relief tool having an influence on deactivating trigger points thus eliminating or reducing the output of the nerve endings in the muscles that communicate pain.
The physiotherapists at South End Physiotherapy strive to utilize these techniques in an evidence-based, best practice manner.
