ACL Injury Prevention Program
Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injuries can be heartbreaking for competitive athletes. Female athletes in particular are at high risk for ACL injury. Fortunately, there are steps that can be taken to reduce the risk of injury. An exercise program addressing balance, proprioception, and leg strength can aid in ACL injury prevention.
Research has shown that the strength of the quadriceps and hamstring muscles, as well as the ratio of strength between these two muscle groups, is an important risk factor in ACL injuries. At South End Physiotherapy, we have the ability to assess the strength of these two muscle groups and coordinate an exercise program specifically targeting any identified weakness. Correcting imbalances in muscle strength is essential in order to maximize ACL injury prevention.
